Welcome to Our Website
The Department started as an Oriental Languages Department in the year 1953, the same year in which the college too started. It was upgraded to an undergraduate department in 2005. The department of Hindi offers Hindi Language and Literature as the core subject and Journalism and Functional Hindi as Complementary subjects.
The department conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar in 2011 on "Changing Dimensions of Hindi in the Information and Technology Era" which benefitted teachers, scholars and students on and off the campus Late professor P.K. SukumaraPillai was the first Head of the Department and presently there are four permanent and one guest member as faculty in the department headed by Dr. Sheena Eapen. The faculty members have pursued U.G.C minor projects, carried out research and extension works, and have publications to their credits in the form of books and articles. They are active in other activities of the college such as Women's Cell, Centre for Women's studies, The Brains Trust, College Alumni,College Co-operative Society etc. and have served as its office bearers during the years. The future Mission of the Department is to evolve as a PG and Research Department and the present faculty is indeed well qualified for it.

To inculcate moral values to the young generation, mould students for job opportunities, undertake research and extension activities reaching unto the marginalised of the society, and equip the faculty to face the challenges of pedagogy.

To discern and spread the power of Hindi language, and strive for academic excellence and social commitment.

About Us
The Department achieved 100% result two times and, above 80% during most of the years. Students of the Open Course-"Film Studies," offered by the Department, achieved
heights when one of the batches made a documentary on the Pampa river which was later accepted by the Pampa River Protection Council as study material. 60% of the U.G students have gone for higher studies in Hindi and other courses. Many have qualified to universities like CUSAT, SSU, Madras University etc.
